Douro, land of viniards, exquisite territory of shaly terraces featuring the lanscape, classified as Worl Heritage since 2001.
The Douro region is per se linked to wine. Since 1756 the region was nominated by decree as wine country by Marquês de Pombal, Prime Minister at the time. The combination of a schist soil, exposure to the sun and the unique microclimate make it exceptional for the production of a wide variety of wines, including the famous Port Wine. The slopes, the vast rows of vines and the Douro river all make this landscape unique.
In December 2001, UNESCO has unanimously inscribed it as World Heritage.
