The term “renda” refers to manual techniques for creating fabrics using simple threads with needles or wooden bobbins. Despite the competition from industrial lace, bobbin lace, with centuries of history, remains one of the most remarkable arts of the Portuguese textile tradition. This art has spread mainly along the coast, with important centers in Vila do Conde and Peniche, but persists in other locations thanks to dedicated lacemakers.
